The City (by Dark Static)

I’d been exploring the academy, when I came across a very old door which (out of curiosity) I gingerly opened, seeing it was incredibly dark inside I searched around for something that would help me see (I never had good night vision), which after a while I found that I could actually see admittedly not well but it was enough. After looking through the doorway, I moved carefully inside, but unfortunately not carefully enough, I stood on an old crumbling step, which promptly gave and fell headlong into the darkness. Checking my diagnostics for injury I began to move on, but now my internal compass had messed up and I couldn’t figure out which way I had come from because there were so many passages. I picked a direction and decided to follow it no matter what the outcome. Walking softly along I could hear terborats scuttling around; suddenly I stopped dead in my tracks. I was so amazed by what I saw; it was the old city the one that had been talked about at the academy so far down under the depths of Cybertron, the very city that had been drawn underground by a savage earthquake almost two billion years ago. I couldn’t believe it; the city or what I could see of it looked almost intact. The buildings looked eerie from the mysterious light that was given off from the surrounding rocks. It appears that the academy had been built over it about five million years ago, but I thought; what about the stairs and the corridor? A puzzle to solve later, much later.

Well I’ll have to find my way out (I told myself); this won’t be easy, since now I am in the very heart of the city. After many hours of fruitless searching I realised that I couldn’t even retrace my steps. I was most definitely lost, my fuel pump pounded, my processor filled with thoughts that I would never see my friends again. I started to run from house to house never stopping, but in my mad rush I’d forgotten one thing and this was that the city still had its street signs, could I follow them? Were they still relevant? Feeling exhausted I was forced to recharge in a derelict house on dusty floor. I awoke in the morning feeling the worse for wear (well I thought it was the morning anyway). I had a surge through my processor, something that I should have thought of before, why don’t I seek out a library or a place that would have maps, this plan firmly set in mind I roamed around the abandoned streets for ages, until after what seemed like an eternity I found somewhere; it was definitely an old library, they actually had recorded stuff on some kind of material instead of uploading it to a system. I rummaged around looking for maps on the rows of shelves and picked up an old dusty map and carefully opened it and placed it down on a rickety table immediately sending up a cloud of dust, coughing and spluttering I strained my optic sensors to take a look a the map, but to my disappointment I found out that this was a map of another old city that had been abandoned for years, not the city I was stranded in.

Oh! Will I ever get out of here???? Silence; guess not.
